Framing Dames: NEVER DO THIS!: The business of picture framing is very tricky.  What you see, most of the time, is the least of your worries. It is what you can't see ...

The business of picture framing is very tricky.  What you see, most of the time, is the least of your worries. It is what you can't see that you should be worried about.  As a consumer, don't ever think that a person who works at a framing shop knows anything about picture framing, let alone design.
Recently a client presented a shadow box to us.  She had taken it to, what she thought was a reputable picture framer, and ever since picking it up, was very unhappy with it. It was to be a memorial to her sister who had passed away. She brought  it in for us to see what we thought.

Definitely over framed!

Masking tape was used to secure the plastic filet inside the piece which is coming off.

Random pieces of wood were used to raise the backing in order to house the sculpture.

No expense was spared,  a gator board sign and meat packing tape to secure the piece. DON'T GO HERE!

You can actually see through it.

After the demolition. And re-build.  The finished product.  Quiet, respectful, simple.
